“He
[God] brought him [Abram] forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and
tell [סָפַר caphar, lit. “declare”]
the stars, if thou be able to number [סָפַר
caphar, lit. “declare” (same word)] them: and He said unto him, SO SHALL
THY SEED BE. And he believed in the
LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness” (Genesis 15:5,6). “The heavens declare [סָפַר caphar (same word repeated in Genesis 15:5)] the glory of
God… Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end
of the world… He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names” (Psalm 19:1,4,
147:4). “Now to Abraham and his Seed
were the promises made. He saith NOT, And to seeds, as of many; but as of ONE,
And to thy SEED, which is Christ” (Galatians 3:16).
The
Lord brought Abram forth abroad
To
see the stars and tell each name,
And
since each star was named by God
He
saw the glory they proclaim.
The
stars were neither blindly hurled
Nor
named by God without a reason.
Their
words went out to all the world
To
show God’s promise in His season.
As
Virgo (virgin), Spica (Seed),
Orion
(Coming Forth as Light)
Were
there for Abram thus to read,
How
glorious were they in his sight!
He
saw His Savior there displayed
In
every star name he could tell,
Believed
the Gospel thus conveyed,
And
he (like us) was saved from hell.
Lord,
thank You for the Gospel story
Conveyed
in stars and Scripture too
With
words that now proclaim Your glory
And
save those who will trust in You!
Lord,
as You named each constellation
And
gave each star its name and place,
Lord,
send us forth to show salvation,
And
thus proclaim Your saving grace!
